All around our earth, groups of people and individuals worship or are drawn to particular birds, animals, fish and amphibians. Why? Some of us are fortunate enough to have an explanation and understanding of our attraction to a particular creature, it may be enshrined in the myth and folklore of our ethnic group, we may live surrounded by one or more of the creatures that we hold in esteem, or, we may simply for some unexplicable reason hold a fascination and reverence for a creature because we just somehow feel connected to their energies and what they represent. Whatever your reason, here is a brief guide to the energies associated with various animals.
BUFFALO Known by some tribes of First People as 'keepers of the circle' because the herd will form a circle when some of their number are under threat. Regarded as sacred, buffalo is said to bring healing medicine and abundance.
WOLF Hunted almost to extinction, the Wolf has and perhaps still is regarded by some as nothing more than a nuisance and pest. Yet recent studies have shown that when Wolf Packs have been reintroduced into various areas the whole eco-system has benefitted. Living in highly ordered social groups with a distinct pecking order, Wolf teaches us how to balance the needs between self and the needs of our family and wider community. Wolf represents loyalty to family and friends. Those with an affinity to Wolf energies are said to be sensitive, intuitive, kind, and understanding. Wolf is a highly adaptable creature who can teach us much.
BEAR A powerful creature of great strength who hibernates during the harsher months of the year. Bear can teach us to go within ourselves via dreams or contemplation so that we might gain inner wisdom. Known as the keeper of Spirit, and First Helper in creation stories.
RABBIT These creatures are said to aid us in confronting our fears and teaching us to love ourselves and be kind to ourselves.
DEER These animals can seem of a somewhat delicate nature, and indeed they can be. These animals are however notoriously difficult to hunt and pursue. Deer can read the signs in their environment and are highly protective and intuitive. To be drawn to the energies of Deer it is said provides gentleness, protection and stealth.
ELK Known for its power, Elk offers us stamina, a strong sense of oneself, and reliance and durability.
HORSE Found in all shapes and sizes all around the globe. Fleet of foot, and once trust is established, loyalty is gladly given and maintained. The horse is known for its adaptibility, stamina, strength and power.
LION The King of the Cats, Lions are renowned for their strength, leadership qualities and majesty, also known for their loyalty to their family and its preservation.
ELEPHANT These long lived creatures are incredibly adaptable, have very strong and loyal family ties, and despite their huge size are known to often be sensitive, gentle, caring and compassionate. There are strong ties between elephants and matriarchal energies.
COYOTE Often called the 'trickster', both clever and sometimes stupid, Coyote is known for 'duality' and aids us in learning life lessons.
